Description
The Baku Street Circuit is a famous racing circuit created specifically to host Formula 1 racing series stages. It is located in the very center of the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Baku.
The news that a top-level racing circuit would be built in Baku was first announced by Bernie Ecclestone in 2013. And three years later, the European Grand Prix was held on the streets of the city. The Baku Circuit is a street configuration of the circuit, which is formed on the eve of the weekend. The Baku Circuit was designed by the famous German engineer Hermann Tilke. The total length of the lap is 6.003 km, the circuit consists of and turns, some of which pass through the historical district of the city. The Baku Race Circuit also includes one of the longest straights in the Formula 1 World Championship, which adds a certain zest to it.
The first race on the Baku Circuit took place in 2016. Shortly before this event, the circuit underwent a final inspection according to the most stringent criteria, during which FIA Director Charlie Whiting declared satisfaction with the new configuration. Then, as a result, such drivers as Nico Rosberg from the Mercedes team, Sebastian Vettel from the Ferrari team, and Sergio Perez from the Force India team took places on the podium. A concert was also held after the race, in which Chris Brown, Enrique Iglesias and Pharrell Williams took part.
In total, the Baku track hosted Formula 1 rounds from 2016 to 2019. In 2020, due to pandemic restrictions, the racing event was not held. Such drivers as Nico Rosberg, Daniel Ricciardo, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas have won on this track.
