Max Verstappen makes a triumphant return: victory at Suzuka and first success of the season

The driver from the Netherlands took a confident victory, his first this season, showing everyone that he is still one of the main contenders for the title. This is the 64th victory in his career and his fourth consecutive pole position at Suzuka, a track where driver skill is especially important.

Even on Friday, it seemed that McLaren would once again impose a fight. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were fast in free practice, but lost in the decisive qualifying - nerves took their toll. At the same time, Verstappen, cold as ice, drove a perfect lap and took pole, setting the tone for the entire weekend.

The race passed without drama and overtaking - as is often the case on the narrow and technical Suzuka. But this is precisely what Verstappen’s outstanding performance underlines: he made no mistakes and controlled the race from start to finish. McLaren managed to stay on the podium: Norris and Piastri finished the race second and third, strengthening the team’s position in the Constructors’ Championship.

There were some surprises, too. Yuki Tsunoda, who was promoted to the main Red Bull team, became a real star for the Japanese fans. His appearance in the main team caused a wave of delight in the stands, because for Formula 1 fans in Japan this is a real holiday.
